Context

- Borani is said to be named after Purandokht, the Sasanian princess and bride of Caliph al-Ma’mun, after an exquisite eggplant dish was served at their lavish 9th-century wedding feast. This ancient Persian dish, featuring eggplant and yogurt, remains a beloved staple appetizer today.
